Christian Scott - Yesterday You Said Tomorrow

“the most important innovator of his generation”
“jazz’s young style god”

Nephew of Donald Harrison, Jr., co-worker of Prince, Jill Scott, Mos Def, DJ Muggs (Cypress Hill), Grammy nominee for (2006 LP) "Rewind That", stylish as they come, Christian Scott is only 27 and already has descriptions as the above under his belly. His new album "Yesterday You Said Tomorrow" is out in the USA this March 30th on Concord.

The album is obviously trying to match albums of the 60s: they brought in famous sound engineer Rudy Van Gelder, who has worked with John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock back in the day. Thus, the sound is very similar, a typical style is everywhere, there are social issues being addressed (racism in "K.K.P.D", gay marriage in "The Last Broken Heart"). The album goes beyond (but not far from) jazz, by adding elements: e.x. a cover of "Erasure" by Thom Yorke (Radiohead) is included.

If you are a jazz fan, this album will convince you. And if you are not, you will become one.
