80kidz (Japan) interview

80kidz
Από την Ιαπωνία. Μας μίλησαν για τα parties τους, τη δισκογραφία τους και την μουσική στην Ιαπωνία.

Q: Who are you, 80kidz?
A: 80kidz is Ali, Mayu, and Jun. We got together in December 2006. All three
of us DJ together, back-to-back.

Q: What does the name 80kidz mean?
A: All of us were born in the 80s. The name came to us pretty quickly.

Q: You have the "Disdrive" EP out in April. Tell me about it.
A: It fs the first release on our gKidz Rec h label.
We produced everything,
including the artwork for the jacket. It includes the
tracks, "Television Talk"h, "Fxxk Fox " along with "Disdrive ".
Now we 're already thinking ahead to our second release.

Q: Are you preparing a full album, then?
A: We can ft give you any details just yet,
but we 're working on it, for sure.

Q: I'm a fan of The Shoes and Heartsrevolution and you have made
great remixes for them. How did you choose to remix those guys?
A: We liked both of those artists from the beginning.
We remixed Heartsrevolution
for their remix contest. As for The Shoes, we got in
touch with them through MySpace, and then one day they gave us the chance
to do a remix for them. We were so lucky!

Q: Also, you have remixed Daft Punk. How did they react to your remix?
A: We did that just for fun actually, and we didn 't expect any reaction. So
far, we haven 't heard of any reaction there .

Q: What new remixes are you preparing?
A: We 're doing remixes for THE GLAMMERS
(http://www.myspace.com/theglammers)and CHROMEO at the moment. And
just yesterday we agreed to do a remix for FUTURECOP! . But from now on,
we're thinking of focusing more on making our own original tracks,
rather than remixing.

Q: Your remixes are great for the dance floor, with a very big
sound. And I think you must love Daft Punk, but also Prodigy, right?
What makes a good remix?
A: Of course we love Daft Punk. As for Prodigy, well, we prefer the Chemical
Brothers. All of us were originally in bands, so we have a pretty good
understanding of song structure. Basically, if we create sounds that get us
excited, then there 's a chance the track will go off on the dance floor.

Q: You host your own parties. Describe everything: the music, the
audience, the clothes, the size of the clubs, the ticket prices.
A: Our next event is called the "80kidz Disdrive EP Release Party".
It 's going to be held at SECO, in Shibuya Tokyo. It 's a Kidz Rec
presentation.

Q: Any other crazy parties in Japan?
A: Japan has lots of underground scenes and lots of cool artists and DJs.
Not only that, we also get a lot of famous artists and bands coming
here from Europe every month. In summer, we have rock festivals like Fuji
Rock, Summer Sonic, and Wire. So we get to have fun all year round!

Q: I've seen your photos with Digitalism, BusyP, and Justice. Are these guys
big in Japan?
A: Of course! The Electro movement is big all over the world, right? Japan's no
exception. You could say those guys are like rock stars.

Q: I don't know any Japanese bands or DJs. Who should I google for?
A: You should check out Cornelius, the Voredoms, Dexpistols, the Lowbrows
and Myss.

Q: What 's your top track so far in 2008?
A: Number one for us would have to be "Hold Me Down h/ PRIMARY 1 (The Shoes remix).

Q: Who 's your favourite artist/band ever?
A: Cornelius. His music, PV, live shows, everything is just so perfect!
