Dimitris Rokos from Kormoranos talks poster-making

Who makes all these beautiful posters?
Several people, but mostly Dimitris Rokos (painter, dj, me), Harry Lagoussis (film director, cartoonist) and Thalia Raftopoulou (visual artist). Over the years many more have also contributed with their work, artists, designers, illustrators, and web masters such as Maria Bacha, Ifiyenia Kamperi, Ilan Manouach, Dimitris Kanellopoulos and the Konsoulator. (I'm namedropping those that have done more than two BUT we thank everyone)

They say that ads can never become art, as their goal is selling. Does the same go for posters?
I don't really know. It's possible that the majority of what we call art and is being produced nowadays aims to sell anyway, so it mostly depends on who you 're talking to. In our case, the choices we make while working on some of our posters as well as the way of working itself are very similar to how we do our "art", if not identical.

What makes a successful poster?
Our thing is so small and restriction-free compared to the rest of the advertising-world that we practically do whatever we want to. I guess an important choice you have to make early on before you start working on a poster is how much you think you gonna represent the artist or event you're promoting and how much yourself.

Do you think that people actually care about posters or is it only a nerd thing between us few?
Don't know. Maybe a nerd thing. What I 've seen is a lot of people often mix-up "medium" and "message", ending up praising posters that I personally find horrible, just because they 're excited with the information. And I think I have never had an actual proposal to do one for someone else.

I know the Ed Banger crew are fans of your posters. Who else is in that list?
Everyone!
"Fucking sickkkk job!!!!!" Paul Devro
"Your posters are the best going around" Tony Mitolo
"class!!" Riton

Give us the details of the April 6th, 7th and 8th thing at Bios.
It's a three days posters exhibition mainly based on original works, drafts and prints of our own designers as mentioned on top. There will also be samples from a lot of our previous collaborations, all of ink press' books, the "Horror & Romance on Another Planet" music compilation, a lot of local djs and three afterparties:

- dj Mehdi & Busy P on the 6th (the opening's aftershow at Swing Club with Blue Lagoon, Gizmo, dj Winjer and the guests UPSTAIRS, and Sally Spektra, Disconekt, dj Bwana & TrelanDJas mixer, dj WhoAmI and Blend Mishkin DOWNSTAIRS)
- Max Tundra (live), Vouno and Legal Tender on the 7th (bios main and the bar above)
- Kelpe (live), Big Fat Lips (live), Canblaster, Fresh Things First, Black Athena, Runner and espeekay on the 8th (closing party at bios main and front)
