The Books are all about the samples: they manipulate samples in any way the can. This has become such an issue for them, that they couldn't find a label to release their new album "The Way Out" (took them 5 years from the last album) till Temporary Residence (house of Mono, Eluvium, Low) gave it a go for this July.
"The Way Out" is darker than their previous work. The album is good and it's obvious the duo have done a lot of work. They used more than 4000 audiotapes to get the samples they needed. This amazing amount of material went into each song sounding different. The goal is accomplished: the songs are different ideas and images. The album's sound starts in a very experimental way ("I Didn't Know That"), with spoken word, reverse lyrics and sound collage. Then, it goes on to more "typical", toned down, emotional songs "(Free Translator", "All You Need Is A Wall").
