B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray

B.o.B. releases his debut album this Tuesday (April 27th): now this it heavy news. He was "trying to get a record deal as long as he can remember" ("The Kids"), as you know.

Late 2008, lots of people were putting their money on this fella, waiting for someone to give some life to the maistream/dead hiphop-rap genre. 2009 was a year that came with hits. Well, now, it's 2010 and B.o.B. is here to deliver in large numbers (you know, the ones with the lots of zeros on the back).

I guess you can call this rap, if Kanye is a rapper. I don't consider Kanye a rapper, but a pop-artist. So, this is a pop album, gittit? Add that B.o.B. doesn't even want to stick to the rap genre and you get the colours of the picture, too.

I don't really care about etiquettes, so take it as it is: good, producer heavy music. The album is fun, playful, it has variety and a vibe going though the whole album. T.I. has had a word on the album, so the story is famous people (Lupe Fiasco, Hayley Williams of Paramore, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, Eminem, the oh-so-talented Janelle Monae) have been combined with fresh producers (Crada, Dr.Luke, Lil'C, The Smeezingtons, Jim Jonsin, Alex Da Kid and star Polow Da Pon): money in the bank, bitch. Lots of money. This is how it looks like, when a bright career kicks off. Mark my words.

B.o.B., man, you got the songs: "Past my shades" is a hell of a song. "The Kids" also, with the Vampire Weekend sample. "Magic" is so Outkast. Oh, oh. I spin this album like a circle, all day long.

(Famous) last words: B.o.B. has used Colplay's sample on "Not Lost", but the track didn't get clearance, so it's not on the album. I couldn't care less, coz I couldn't care less about Coldplay. But, rappers, wtf? Lay of the Coldplay samples, enough yet.
