The Magnetic Fields - Realism

One of the big issues of most Best Albums of 00s lists was if "69 Love Songs" could be included, since it was a (September) 1999 release. Not my problem, as I have never cared about lists. I find silly the idea of people rating art. I have only one thing to add to this conversation: Michael Jordan. This is the only clear example of sth that is really so much better that anything else in it's category.

Anyway, "69 Love Songs" is a great album, worthy of many lists (I guess). And Stephen Merritt is an everchanging guy. 2008's "Distortion" album sounded like Beach Boys meets Jesus & Mary Chain, distortion as it was meant in the 60s and 90s: "California Girls" says it all:

Well, the new album is called "Realism" and is released next Tuesday on Nonesuch. It is nothing like "Distortion". Stephen Merritt calls it "folk", meaning
no drums or synthesizers, and instead natural sounds, accordion, violin, banjo, tuba, cello. Basically, unplugged. Basically, just songs from a songs craftsman. Basically, music. Can't argue with that, can you?
