Optimo DJs (Keith) interview

Optimo DJs in Athens, Friday night.
Nothing else to be said, you know the drill: heads up, heads down + button all buttons.
The Flying Lilis Bros will air an exclusive 30minute mix from Optimo at their radioshow @ www.offradio.gr, a little while before the party begins.

In the meantime, some words from Keith.

Name 3 songs that we're defininately going to hear in your set in Athens?
I don't know yet!

in your sets, you play everything and one knows not what to expect: which is good, but also can be really akward, given the different crowds in every country. So, how do you prepare the music for each show, especially when on tour?
Bringing music we love, believe in and have seen move a crowd before. Bringing new tracks we want to take a risk with and play to a new crowd. Bringing something rediculous. Think about previous experiences of that city, if any. Bring something unexpected or a little strange which has been a hit at our own club.

I read somewhere that you are working on sth with the R&S back catalogue. Please, elaborate before I bang my head to death.
I (Keith) was a massive R&S fan in the early 90s so was honoured to be given access to their whole back catalogue to do with as i wished and create a mix cd from it all. it comes out in may.

Name a few albums that have impressed you already in 2009 or that you are eager to listen to when they come out.
Big Ned by Big Ned. (Optimo Music)
Merriweather Post Pavillion by Animal Collective. (Domino)
Out of Noise by Ryuichi Sakamoto (Avex, Japan)
Checkmate Savage by The PHantom Band (Chemikal Underground)

In your "Sleepwalk" compilation, you have an exclusive mix of THAT track by Coil. Any info on the track's story?
I loved the original and when we asked to license it, we got an email back asking if we wanted an exclusive remix. we of course said yes!

If you are into football (and Celtic), what do you think of Giorgos Samaras?
I used to follow Celtic when I first moved to Glasgow 20 years ago but now I don't go to football matches. It's difficult to ignore football in this city as it's in so many people's hearts... Giorgos Samaras is a huge player for Celtic and will probably become a legendary one.
