In an era that listening to a whole album has become just unbearable, "Watch The Throne" naturally obligates you to go through the whole 12 tracks. Extra-ambitious as you'd expect, Jay-Z and Kanye have brought in everybody to work, trying to get as many sounds as possible (in their own, super-star music reality). In the early 00s we talked about how hiphop is the new pop. Well, this LP is hiphop only by a mile. Mainstream music made for world domination is the only word that describes it, and this seems to be the aim of the two super-stars.
Frank Ocean, Beyonce and Mr Hudson guest on vocals.
The list of producers is endless: RZA, Neptunes, Mike Dean, Swizz Beatz, 88-Keys, Q-Tip plus more.
Samples vary from James Brown (a lot of them) and Otis Redding to Cassius, Flux Pavilion and Incredible Bongo Band. Plus, there are excerpts from the awesome comedy "Blades Of Glory" with Will Ferrell.
A masterpiece is not to be expected in such mega projects, rather than some fine tunes. Well, there you go, so thumbs up for this effort.
