This was unexpected: i couldn't believe it when I learned The Lytics will perform live in Greece @ Plissken Festival (Dec.4th, be there).
If you ain't heard of''em, you could be excused, since they're only starting to break. But, if you've listened to "Big City Soundgirl" and still pass on them, you are simply deaf and you need to check your ears. Respect to the Lytics, you made a feel-good anthem and you know it.
We asked, they answered.
Whatever happened to girls from the corner?
That was written for a girl I know, we’re dating at the time and she was getting ready to go away for a while, so I wrote her the song. We’re no longer together, but are still friends, so she’s still around.
I'm a Reebok man myself, but Pumas have been good to me, too. What's about Pumas that's worthy of a song?
Sometimes when you write, you gotta just go with it and not worry so much about all the details. The song really came about as something we were just playing around with actually, the beat reminded us of puma shoes, and it just worked, so we kept it.
You've been touring with Chali 2na recently. How did that happen? How was it? Did he lay you in any interesting Jurassic 5 stories?
Ya we just came off an awesome two week tour with him. We gotta give all the credit to our booking agent Grant Paley and Paquin booking agency for that, as well as our manager Cass. He actually did tell us some dope stories about how they (Jurassic 5) came to be and just schooled us on the whole environment in LA at the time they were coming up. It was a great experience getting to travel with a real hip hop legend, we really learned a lot about show business and just life in general for that matter, the dudes just full of wisdom haha.
You also played with K'Naan. How was that?
That was awesome, probably the biggest crowd we’ve ever played, so it was a great experience. It felt like we all put on a great show and it seemed like people really dug it, so we were quite happy with the whole affair. We’re also fans of his, so to get an opportunity to be a part of something like that is amazing, it really meant a lot to us.
How does it feel that you're playing in Greece? Did you expect to have fans over here?
So crazy! It’s going to be fun, we’ve never seen Europe and so it’ll be nice to do a little traveling all the while doing what we love, playing music. We’re going to put on a hell of a show for you guys, so be sure not to miss it.
Can you name some other Winnipeg bands/artists I should google?
Of course I can, we’re from a really talented city and I’d be happy to tell the whole world about it. So i'll just list a few names; Grand Analog, Magnum K.I., Pip Skid, Imaginary cities, Royal Canoe, Hope Atlantic, Matt Epp I could go on all day lol. Check em out!!!
