It is not often that we get to see radio stars in Greece, so WeFunk being in Athens this Thursday is a not-to-miss-event. These guys have all the taste and the variety you can handle, that's for sure. They were kind enough to answer a few questions for us.
Can you sum up the amount of money that you have spent on music (in all forms) in your lifetime?
- It would be scary to try to count it all up - I think I'd prefer not to! Either too much or not enough, depending on how you look at it.

As an avid audiophile myself, what is it that makes it worth it to spend so much money and time for music?
- After doing the radio show so long, music reseach is just a normal part of our routine. No matter how busy we always find time for it. In the end it's what we gotta do to feed the addiction!
WeFunk is a show that is well respected because of your great taste in music. What are the qualities that make music great?
- On WEFUNK we love music with a good groove. Good technique and musicianship help of course. Some songs really speak to you and touch you. Others are just catchy radio tunes that are here today, gone tomorrow. So we try to select timeless music that truly resonates with people.
How do you find the music you play? Can you name some of the best places to look for obscure music of interest?
- Many ways. We used to be record junkies, digging everywhere from record stores to thrift stores to garage sales. I remember visiting a legendary record dealer in Hong Kong who just sells them on the street! Now we get a lot of music digitally, including directly from artists and labels. The Internet has really reshaped the music community. Instead of just a small number of music lovers gathering in record stores, we now have a large onine community with blogs, mixes and radio shows so more people are getting into the action.
Do you do any research on the music of each country before you play a show there?
- We don't really plan our selections to fit specific countries. But we do freestyle our sets so we can respond to to the crowd and feed off their energy wherever we go.
The great thing about touring is discovering new artists and sounds from different countries. For example, on show #565 we put together all the tracks we discovered on a European tour that covered Austria, U.K., France, Germany, Poland, and more!

Do you have any favourite Greek bands?
- Not yet, but I'm sure that will change when we visit!
