Grinderman's self titled album was impressive, in the way that it re-introduced to the public a band of musicians with heavy bios and a tag saying "Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds". Just to try and sound different would be something, to do it in a fresh way too, is just fine in my book.
So, their second effort is called "Grinderman 2" and as everyone will say, finds them in top form. 30 years co-worker of the band, producer Nick Launay is back at it again. Good, fun album, this one. And yes, the word fun is not one to be accustomed for Nick Cave, i know. Take "Kitchenette", an experimental jazz blues rock fun sounding song. Take "Palaces of Montezuma", a gospel/love song. "Evil" and "Bellringer Blues" are on the other side of fun: the side where a band makes a song by having fun and experimenting with its sound. You get the picture. Robert Fripp guests on the i-tunes version of the album, in the song called "Super Heathen Child".
Lyrically
Grinderman 2 is released this Monday on Mute and Anti, but you can stream it now here
