"Rising Down" was supposed to be the last Roots album, but they changed their minds, it seems. As they are gods, it's ok. So, their new, 9th album "How I Got Over" is oh, much more than welcomed. It's filled with fellow artists, like Monsters of Folk, Joanna Newsom, John Legend, Blu, Dirty Projectors, Dice Raw, P.O.R.N. + more. You get the picture, right?
The album is toned-down, the lyrics are all about facing life in an era where everything is uncertain and urgency for action is so apparent. "Everything is changing around me and I should ..." goes the lyric in "Now or Never". Same vibe in "The Day". We are talking about a call to action towards every man on his own: wake up and realize that change comes from each person. If you start from yourself, then change is gonna come. Soul, jazz, hiphop, rap blend in the background, but the lyrics are all it's all about. The album is very good.
"How I Got Over" is released this June 22nd on Def Jam.
