Mystery Jets are a band that likes changes and has good taste in producers. In their first album, they worked with producer James Ford (of Simian Mobile Disco). In their second, producers are Erol Alkan and Stephen Street (Smiths, Blue, Cranberries). In their new one "Serotonin", the producer is the legendary Chris Thomas who has worked with Sex Pistols, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Roxy Music, INXS, Elton John, Pulp, U2 and many more.
As lots of bands these days, Mystery Jets with "Serotonin" aim for a pure pop album. The lyrics are pop, the melodies are pop, the vocals and chorals are pop. No indie, no anything. Pure pop. The melodies are given a lot of space to sound as clear as possible, the result screams lush. I prefer the songs to the album.
The album will be released this July 5th on Rough Trade Records.
