Caspian @ An Club, 22.05.2010

The announcement that the doors of AN Club will open half an hour later than scheduled (9:30PM instead of 9:00PM), due to the delay of Caspian's flight, did not actually reveal the fact that the band arrived in Athens at 9:00PM! This was the bad start of what turned out to be a(n almost cancelled) memorable event! Adolf plays the jazz ("nothing to do with politics and especially fascism") were the support act that kicked-off 50-55 minutes later than originally planned (the event was supposed to start at 9:30PM) and played a remarkable 30-35 minutes set of gradually rising intensity which peaked at its end. An appropriate support band probably at its first big gig.
After a break of 25-30 minutes, Caspian finally stepped on stage at 11:23PM. If you barely like their albums then you will probably love their live show, since they are quite heavy and noisier than in their studio recordings. A minimal drum kit, a distinct bass and 3 guitars makes us a bunch of pounding people. The first three tracks ("Malacoda" being the second one) were characteristic of what was about to follow. Last sounds before the encore were the drums of "Sycamore" and "Crawlspace" closed the set (or so I want to believe!). No soundcheck, not many attendees, a broken guitar chord and yet Caspian twitted: "Hooooly crap Athens is the bomb. Hard to find the words - it rules here so hard. We are lucky!!!". An 80-minutes live act to remember...
