XTC - Fossil Fuel (The XTC Singles 1977-92)

"Fossil Fuel" was released back in 1996 and it was the 3rd "Best of" for XTC. It includes all their eponymous 31 singles that were released by Virgin, in chronological order.

Sounding as versatile as a band can come (blessing new wave with pure british pop), and with a carrear spanning over decades, XTC's sound appealed to different crowds at different periods. 1st disc includes songs that appealed mostly to UK ("Making Plans for Nigel", "Sgt. Rock (Is Going to Help Me)"), while 2nd disc features tracks that were appreciated more in the USA ("Dear God", "The Mayor of Simpleton", "The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead").

Funny thing: last song is "Wrapped in Grey", which was the 3rd single from of "Nonsuch" (1992). Virgin's decision to recall and delete the single signaled the band's exit from the label.

"Fossil Fuel" is being re-released this January. You can listen to it here
