Fat Joe has lately followed the maistream road, but this tenth album of his is a different story: Joe goes hiphop, as old school as it gets: produced by Cool&Dre, Just Blaze, Scoop DeVille, DJ Premier, Scram Jones, Streetrunner, the album is all about the samples and the references. There's Soul II Soul, there's Reakwon, there's the "it was all a dream" line, you get the picture.
Lyrically, Fat Joe spits about money more often than a cashier, so you know. Other issues are drugs, power, .the current situation, that's that. Young Jeezy, Cam'ron, R.Kelly, Lil Wayne, Clipse, Too $hort, Trey Songz, Busta Rhymes feature.
The album is top notch, music and lyrics are up there and relevant. IFirst single "(Ha ha) Slow Down" has already been freestyled on by the lot of them, be it Jim Jones, Rick Ross, The Game, Talib Kweli, Capone, Reakwon and counting: props to Scoop Deville for the sample of "However Do You Want It" and the most talked about tune of 2010 so far.
The Darkside Vol1 is released this July27th , but you can listen to it now here
