Sage Francis - Li(f)e

Once in a while you get an album that just goes ahead, far away from the oh-so-tired notion of hiphop. This is the case with Sage Francis's new album "Li(f)e".
With a band consisting of Brian Deck (producer of Modest Mouse, Iron and Wine, etc) and Jim Becker and Tim Rutili (of Califone), you get the idea, right? Not yet?
The album starts with Jason Lytle's (Granddaddy) music called "Little Houdini". There are 2 songs with Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie). "Slow Man" is with the folks from Calexico. DeVotchka are in there, too and even Yann Tiersen (yes, the "Amelie" composer). And "Love The Lie" is a composition of Mark Linkous (R.I.P.) of Sparklehorse.
This is good, original music. And songs. This is hip-hop gone fresh, by a guy that isn't afraid to try his own way and that goes for the brilliant production, too.

The album will be out this May 11th on the great ANTI- records, but you can now listen to it here
